I use to think the education system was about educating kids so they could grow up and become productive, intelligent members of society. Oh was I mistaken! The education system is all about politics and money, just like everything else. Teachers don't want to do their jobs but want to get paid overtime. Principals walk around schools completely clueless as to what goes on in the classrooms they are responsible for. People in high-ranking positions scratch their friends' backs to the detriment of others who don't have friends in high places, and nepotism runs wild.
As an incoming teacher and passionate educator, all of this is heartbreaking to witness because the ones who really lose out are the students.
Yet in spite of the insidious nature of the education system, on the first day of school, I was reminded that there are still teachers out there who work diligently to educate and inspire their students. Observing a classroom from start to finish reminded why I teach.
At first the students are shy, but as the day goes on they liven up, excitedly raising their hands to answer questions and participate in lessons. Teachers have so much power over their students education I only wish more would use that power for the good of their students.
I can't wait to have my own class so I can watch my students transform before my eyes.
